About Dr Peter Heffernan

While working as a Family Doctor, I became increasingly interested in the emotional lives of my patients to the point where I decided to specialise in Psychiatry. I have been a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists since 1992, and have continued my professional development in many aspects of Psychiatry, including Psychotherapy.

I am a long-standing member of the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists and a member of the United Kingdom Adult ADHD Network ( UKAAN)

I am experienced in the assessment and treatment of anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain syndrome, bipolar disorder, alcoholism and the psychoses, and specialise in attention deficit disorder in adolescence and adulthood.

I have extensive experience in therapy with patients with family and relationship issues, grief and loss, childhood trauma, workplace physical and emotional injury, including PTSD, and Veterans psychiatry.

I live and work on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, in private practice.

I have a commitment to regional, rural and remote community mental health services.

My personal interests include travel through regional and remote Australia, family, a home orchard and look forward to seeing if Damara sheep will deal with our blackberry problem.
